In Deep

The morning after, her world grew very silent. Words failed to fill the void, almost as if someone opened their mouth to speak their words would violently shatter the silence, so no one dare speak a word.

The curtains were drawn like a cold shoulder on the sun — go away, we won’t be needing you today.

Her eyes were red from all the tears the night before, and swollen almost shut or maybe it was her heavy lids that made it look like she was still half asleep. And she didn’t want to wake up, didn’t want to face the day that just promised more tears, more agony, more questions.

And so she decided right then to dig a hole and hide out.
